Capstone Ideas
For my capstone I want to 3D model some objects well to show I can do it to potential employers in the future. Now my ideas come in what way I can do that. My original idea was to make a 3D gallery using maya and having a run through like it was going through a museum. Another idea was for me to import my work into a UDK level so someone could explore the objects from all angels. However, my current idea is to use this new 3D extension to After Affects to present it in a way no one has since this is a new program and no one really knows about or how to use it. I still may do the UDK level though, it depends on if I can figure out how to import things properly into it.

ReplyDeleteSounds like a nice idea. I'm curious if you're taking suggestions of objects to model or are these going to be your choices?

ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of integrating the display into an environment that can be explored. That would make me want to look at it.
I really like the idea of an interactive art gallery. Not sure how hard it be to do, but I'd be neat if when you walked up to a museum piece, there was a button to push that would play audio explaining what you're looking at, etc..

ReplyDeleteYour idea could be interesting, but I think you need to choose some kind of theme for whatever you’re going to model. Otherwise you run the risk of your project looking like it was made up from old work.

ReplyDeleteI think some simple navigation or game elements might help make it more captivating to the viewer. You don't have to do a ton, but just enough to kinda reward the player for finding the objects, letting them pick them up and explore them from all angles.

ReplyDeleteI like the idea of creating a museum or just a basic level to further examine your models. That would make it more engaging for the viewer and also let them see all aspects of your model.
I'm not a 3D expert but I know sometimes modeling is about just compositing a model into a scene and lighting it correctly and making it look real, so if you put all of your models into a level would being able to see them from all angles affect your lighting and backgrounds and things like that? Maybe that's a silly question I don't know.
Obviously you and I had a discussion on this in class and I think it's great you have already figured out a way to present it, but coming up with an idea on what you want to model is essential now. What I did was I thought about what my best work has been, and then went with something to do with that. For instance, I modeled a very detailed gate in advanced 3D and seeing how good it was at the end I knew that the best way to show off my talents was doing something in architecture. Your a good 3D artist, just have to figure out what to model to show that.

ReplyDeleteJessica Faux - Feel free to get with me and model my doll. I would like to see him in 3D.
ReplyDeleteI say go with the modeling all the way. I've seen your work. It's awesome. After Effects is only making it better.
